Sofia Santana De Cuevas, nació el 25 de octubre del 1938 en Rancho Viejo Michoacan, Mexico y murió el 22 de marzo del 2026, Hollister, California. Sus padres fueron Justa Sanabria y Agapito Santana. Le sobrevive su esposo Alfredo Cuevas-Montejano y sus once hijos, Francisco Cuevas, Elvia Ruiz-Cuevas, Leonel Cuevas, Irma Sanchez, Elena Cuevas, Ana Cuevas, Elvira Cuevas, Sylvia Cuevas, Sofia Arias, Margarita Cuevas y Alfredo Cuevas. Le sobreviven sus hermanos Lupe Santana y Lupe Mendez-Santana, 26 nietos y 10 bisnietos.

Sofia emigró a Estados Unidos en 1974 a los siete meses de estar embarazada para seguir a su esposo y buscar El Sueño Americano.Trabajo hasta los 8 meses de estar embarazada en el trabajó del campo antes de tener a su primera hija en Estados Unidos. Trabajó 25 años en el campo y canería. A ella le gustaba plantar rosales, coser, tejer y escuchar música de las Jilguerillas. Le gustaba ir a misa, a la celebración de la Virgen de Guadalupe y ver el Vía Crucis en Iztapalapa, en la Ciudad de México. Sus mayores logros fueron criar a sus hijos, verlos forjar sus propios caminos y convertirse en ciudadana estadounidense.

Le precedieron en la muerte su hija Guadalupe C. Santana y sus hermanos Manuel Santana, Domingo Santana, Irene Santana, Petra Santana, Maria Santana, Jose Santana, Ruben Santana y Francisco Santana.

Sofia Santana De Cuevas was born on October 25, 1938, in Rancho Viejo, Michoacán, Mexico, and passed away on March 22, 2026, in Hollister, California. Her parents were Justa Sanabria and Agapito Santana. She is survived by her husband, Alfredo Cuevas-Montejano, and her eleven children: Francisco Cuevas, Elvia Ruiz, Leonel Cuevas, Irma Sanchez, Elena Cuevas, Ana Cuevas, Elvira Cuevas, Sylvia Nepita, Sofia Arias, Margarita Cuevas, and Alfredo Cuevas. She is also survived by her siblings, Lupe Santana and Lupe Mendez-Santana, as well as 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sofia immigrated to the United States in 1974—seven months pregnant—to join her husband and pursue the American Dream. She worked in the fields until she was eight months pregnant, before giving birth to her first daughter in the United States. She worked for 25 years in the agricultural fields and in canning factories. She enjoyed planting rose bushes, sewing, knitting, and listening to music by Las Jilguerillas. She loved attending Mass, celebrating the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and watching the reenactment of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. Her biggest accomplishments were raising her children and seeing them build their own paths and becoming a US citizen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Guadalupe G. Santana and siblings Manuel Santana, Domingo Santana, Irene Santana, Petra Santana, Maria Santana, Jose Santana, Ruben Santana y Francisco Santana.

The Cuevas family wishes to thank Mabie Southside Nursing Home for all the work and dedication shown toward our beloved mother. We will be eternally grateful.

The Rosary will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026. Doors open at 5:00 PM, and the Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM at St. Benedict Church, 1200 Fairview Rd., Hollister, CA 95023.

Funeral Mass and Burial: Monday, March 30. Doors open at 10:30 AM and Mass begins at

11:00 AM at St. Benedict Church, 1200 Fairview Rd., Hollister, CA 95023.

The burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.
