Daria Perez "Doris" Chávez Obituary

Our beloved mother, Daria Perez Chávez, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on February

12, 2026, at the age of 101.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Manuel Amador Chávez; her sister, Paula Garza; and her brother, Reynaldo (Joe) Perez.

Daria is lovingly survived by her seven children:

Manuela (Nellie) Robinson Ortega, Virginia R. Ramos, Jesus Victor Chávez (Priscilla), Manuel T.

Chávez (Christine), Arthur L. Chávez (Holly), Rebecca S. Chávez (Manuel Gutierrez) and David P. Chávez (Annmarie).

She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren,

and numerous nieces and nephews who cherish her memory.

Daria was born in Garland City, Arkansas, where she worked in the cotton fields during her youth.

Daria and Manuel were married in the county of Lafayette, Arkansas, on March 30, 1942.

In 1944, at the age of 19, she relocated to California with her husband’s family, settling first in

Tres Pinos, later in Hollister, and then in San Juan Bautista. In 1974, she moved to Laporte,

Colorado, before returning to Hollister in 1982, where she lived until her passing.

A devoted homemaker and hard worker, Daria, alongside her husband, owned and operated

apricot and walnut orchards in both San Juan Bautista and Hollister—all while caring lovingly for

her growing family.

Although she did not have the privilege of a formal education, Daria sought knowledge

passionately, teaching herself to read, write, and master the skills she needed in life.

With open arms, she welcomed friends, neighbors, and anyone in need into her home—no one

was ever turned away. Her warmth, generosity, and hospitality touched countless lives.

Daria has left us all a legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance. We are deeply blessed to have

shared in her long and beautiful life. She is now at peace, rejoicing in eternal comfort and joy.

Daria was a faithful member of Mission San Juan Bautista and Sunnyslope Christian Church,

where her faith and devotion were evident in the way she lived and loved.

Visitation will be held at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home on Monday, March 2nd, from 4 –5

pm followed by services at 5 pm.

Graveside service will be on Tuesday, March 3rd, at the San Juan Bautista Cemetery at 11:00 am
