Bertinna Joann Turpin Obituary

Bertinna Joann Turpin, lovingly known as Joann, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at the age of 85, in Hollister, California.

Joann was born on January 31, 1940, in San Francisco, California, to Lambert and Barbara Hazelaar. She grew up in Los Altos and Morgan Hill, where she spent her early years surrounded by family and community. After graduating from Live Oak

High School, Joann moved to Salinas, where she met the love of her life, Claude Ray Turpin. They married in 1957 and began a life together grounded in love, devotion, and shared purpose.

Joann welcomed her first child, Barbara, in 1959, followed by Cindy in 1961 and Jeff in 1963. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, deeply committed to her family. After her children reached their teenage years, she went on to practice Real

Estate in Santa Cruz where she built lasting relationships through her integrity and care for others.

In 1990, Joann and Claude moved to Hollister, where they opened Heritage Cleaners, working side by side to bring Claude’s longtime vision to life, with Joann’s unwavering support at its heart.

A cherished member of the Hollister community, Joann formed many lasting friendships and found great joy in her involvement with the Hollister Gardening Club, a passion she truly loved. She also found peace in the rolling green hills of

Hollister, often admiring their beauty and the calm they brought her. Joann will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and the deep love she held for her family and friends.

Joann is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Claude Ray Turpin; her beloved children Barbara and her husband Norman, Cindy and her husband Bruce, and Jeff and his wife Maritza; her five grandchildren, Kelsey and her husband Mario,

Cody, Tali, Nadav and his wife Audrey, and Alan; and her two adored great- grandchildren, Lola and Mario. She is also survived by her brother Lambert Hazelaar and his wife Marnie; her nephews Jamin, Jared, Joseph, and Jordan

Hazelaar; her nieces Kelly and Kristy Hazelaar; and extended family members Vicky, Sandy, Gary, and David Turpin.  She is preceded in death by her sister Barbara Deann Hazelaar.
