It is with heavy hearts that we announce Valie Garcia, a selfless woman who embodied the essence of family unity and sacrifice, passed peacefully surrounded by family at age 87, on December 28, 2025. Born to loving parents on Valentine's Day of 1938, Valie would grow to be a beacon of love, tenderness and generosity for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Valie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Henry "Hank" E. Garcia, her loving sons, John Bojorquez and Henry "Hank” Garcia Jr., her siblings– Irene Rodriguez, Isabel Russo, Jose "Max" Reyes, Ysidro Reyes, her parents Lillian Guadiana Reyes and Ysidro Reyes, and her granddaughter, Lisa Bojorquez.
Valie was a pillar of strength and a source of endless love for her family. Her spirit and legacy will live on in her daughter, Karen Marie Garcia; her siblings, Anita Reyes Gonzalez, Pete Reyes, Jessie Reyes, Rosemary Bishop; her grandchildren, Jimmy Pelaiz III (Anna Pelaiz), Keith Pelaiz (Mariza Pelaiz), Alicia Bojorquez, Javier Reynoso, Lindsey Lopez Balogh (Hondo Balogh), Robert Ryan Lopez (Michaela Imperatrice Lopez), Tiana Garcia (Matt Jimenez); Great grandchildren Alyssa Macias, Jimmy Pelaiz IV, Keith "Mateo" Pelaiz Jr., Jasmine Pelaiz, Azalea Pelaiz, Jayda Pelaiz, Sebastian Balogh, Lilliana Pelaiz, Mia Lopez, Robert Ryan Lopez Jr., Ava Lopez, Ryatt Lopez, Henry Valen Balogh, Isaias Jimenez, Kira Bojorquez, Isaiah, Rey, Reyna,.
Valie was a woman of many talents and passions. After graduating from Chowchilla Highschool she held various jobs throughout her life. She was an esteemed saleswoman at Baughman's and enjoyed her time working on a catering truck. Valie played recreational and competitive fast pitch softball and bowling. She even competed in Hawaii, demonstrating her commitment, athleticism and passion for the sports she loved. She had a fondness for crosswords and wordsearches, card games and backyard barbecues with the family. Above all, Valie’s greatest accomplishment was the love and unity she cultivated in her family. She was devoted to her children and served as a team mom supporting her children in little league, football, tennis, cheerleading and swimming. She also opened her home to many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and friends of her children creating a haven of warmth and belonging for all.
Valie's life will be celebrated at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home (870 San Benito St., Hollister, CA) on Thursday, January 15, 2026. The viewing will be from 3-5 pm, with the reciting of the Rosary starting at 4pm and a wake to follow from 5-7pm. The burial will take place the following day, Friday, January 16, 2026, at the San Joaquin National Cemetery at 2pm. Family and friends are encouraged to meet at the funeral home for a final mariachi send off from 11:30am-12:30pm. The funeral processional will leave Grunnagle’s at 12:30pm with the following paul bearers guiding her exit: Jimmy Pelaiz III, Keith Pelaiz, Lindsey Lopez Balogh, Ryan Lopez, Jimmy Pelaiz IV, Keith Mateo Pelaiz Jr., Hondo Balogh, Bob Lopez, Chris Reyes, and Ron Zamorano. A reception will follow at the Vault in Hollister at 4pm.
Valie Garcia was more than a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a beacon of hope, a symbol of resilience, and an emblem of selflessness. Her life was a testament to the power of love and sacrifice, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate an extraordinary life lived and the profound impact she made on those around her. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and was loved by.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Valie to a charity she supported. She routinely donated to St. Judes and her local first responders including the Hollister Police Department and Fire Department. Valie was a woman of great strength and unwavering love, and it is with this spirit that we carry her memory forward.
