With deep sorrow, the Matchain family announces the passing of Architect Luis Matchain, who passed away to meet Jesus, his Savior, at 86 years old on December 15, 2025 in San Juan Bautista, CA.

Luis Matchain was a deeply loved and respected man. He loved to spend his later years at the Basque restaurant, Matxain Etxea in San Juan Bautista. He was so well known and loved there that he became the face of the restaurant.

His life was guided by his Christian faith, his dedication to hard work, and, above all, his constant habit of thinking of others first. Those who knew him remember his ever-present smile, his warmth, and his remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel welcome.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and gratitude that will remain in the hearts of his family. His absence leaves an immense void, but his memory will continue to shine in the lives of those who loved him and those who shared moments with him at Matxain Etxea and within the community.
