The family of Anthony “Tony” Christopher Ybarra of Hollister, California is saddened to announce his passing on September 12, 2025 at the age of 71.
Tony graduated from San Benito High School in 1973. Shortly after, he began a long and very successful career in the restaurant business. His restaurant career began as a bus boy at Cadematoris in San Juan Bautista, he quickly progressed to waiter. After leaving Cadematoris, Tony found his passion, managing successful restaurants. All of his hard work guided him in becoming the general manager at Jardines de San Juan, Feedlot in Tres Pinos, Cedar House, and Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister. Tony’s extensive experience led him into opening his own restaurant in San Juan Bautista, JT’s Branding Iron.
In addition to his many achievements, Tony was a dedicated family man. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janice of 51 years. They enjoyed hosting family gatherings with great food, attending country western concerts, and traveling. Among their cherished memories were traveling to Hawaii and Walt Disney World.
Compassionate and humble, Tony was an avid pet lover. He had deep affection for his horse, Travis, his many cats (gatos), ducks and chickens. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family, friends, and animals.
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Hollister; Tony’s children: Sharon Green and Robert Ybarra, of Hollister; Tony’s grandchildren: Christopher Green, Eric Green and Lauren Green, Gabriella Faria; Anthony Ybarra, Simon Ybarra all of Hollister, and Elena Ybarra of Fresno; Tony’s siblings: Margaret Ybarra, Richard and Linda Ybarra of Hollister, David and Christy Ybarra of Washington, Mike and Patty Ybarra of Fresno, and Mark Ybarra of Hollister.
Tony was preceded in death by his mother Isabel Marie Ybarra, father Simon Peter Ybarra; and sister, Kathy Farve.
Public viewing will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 10:30-11:30 AM at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Family Funeral Home, 870 San Benito Street in Hollister, California. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1100 Hillcrest Road, in Hollister, California.
