Anthony Richard Lemos Obituary

Anthony Richard Lemos passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and caregivers on September 9, 2025 in Hollister, California. Anthony “Tony” was born in Gilroy, California on July 15, 1928 to Daniel and Mary Lemos, who migrated from the Azore Islands of the Faial and Pico.


Tony is survived by his wife, Beverly, of 51 years. He is also survived by his three daughters, Tonya (Vince) Miguel, Stephanie (John) Miguel, and Gae (Joey) Miguel. Along with his two stepdaughters, Denise (Mike) McAbee, and Gena Fillhardt. His legacy includes seven grandchildren, Shad (Sarah) Melgarejo, Tiffany Moore, Matthew (Reily) Miguel, Paige (Tommy) Ketchum, Makenzie (Haydon) Turpin, Chace (Ryan) Platero, and Brady (Kailey) Miguel. Along with two grandchildren, Aja (Joe) Alnas, and Michael McAbee. Tony also has four great grandchildren, Bobby Moore, Rocco Melgarejo, Tatum Turpin, and TJ Ketchum. Along with three great grandchildren, Jocelyn McAbee, Zoey McAbee, and Joey Alnas. Tony was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings, MaryAnn Silva, Alice Avila, and Adeline, Daniel, Edward, and James Lemos.


In 1949, Tony joined the National Guard reserves and served throughout the 1950s. He became a successful farmer growing/harvesting, tomatoes, sugar beets, and garlic. Along with small crops of walnuts and apricots.


Tony was a hard-working, honest man who took pride in helping out others. For many years he was a member of the San Benito County Search and Rescue team. One of his many passions included rescuing and training wild mustangs from the Sierra Nevada.


As a cattleman, he looked forward to his annual branding, along with hosting weekly cattle roping competitions. As a water skier, Tony also looked forward to his annual Father’s Day trips to Don Pedro Lake.


Other favorite past times Tony enjoyed were snow skiing, golfing, riding his Harley, and playing a few hands of Poker or Pedro.


As his family, we would like to express our utmost gratitude to his caregivers, Kelly, Christina, Delilah, Lucia, Rosalie, Elvia, and Rena for their dedication and excellent care.


Celebration of life will be held on November 16, 2025 at The Barn in Tres Piños, California from 12:00 to 4 p.m. where all are welcomed.
