Margaret Hooper Obituary

Margaret Minnie Hooper, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Born in Hollister, California, to Frank and Dominica Matulich, Margaret graduated from San Benito High School in 1944 and completed a year of college before marrying Don Hooper. She embraced her favorite role in life — being a devoted mother to her daughters Judy and Donna.

She started a career at the high school as a secretary where she became a favorite to many of the students. It was a job she held close to her heart and talked about throughout her life.

Later in life, she met her soulmate, Al Rowe. The two of them shared many memories together before he passed away in 2008. They loved to travel, go to the casinos and golf. She also loved to knit and would make blankets for her kids, grandkids, friends, neighbors, doctors, and acquaintances.

Margaret loved life and most of all, her family. She never missed a family gathering. Her “kids” meant the world to her. Her daughters, grandkids and great grandkids were her whole life.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Judy Goularte (Matt Zazueta), Donna Hooper, her grandchildren, Ali Egan (Jim), Lance Goularte (Sheryl) and her great-grandchildren Olivia Intravia, Francesca Intravia, Ryker Goularte, Presley Goularte, Justin Egan, and Devyn Wolcott.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank, and Dominica Matulich; her brother, Tony Matulich; and her beloved Al Rowe.

A Mass in her honor will be held Friday, August 22, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception in Tres Pinos, California.
