Obituary of Tomas M. Zamorez
Tom Zamorez age 88 of Hollister, CA, passed away on April 29, 2025, in his home with his family at his side.
Tom was born in El Monte, CA, to Abunio and Jeannie Mesa Zamorez on December 21, 1936. When Tom was 6 months old his father passed; as the only son he began working after 8th grade to help support his family including his mother and four sisters. While continuing to work laboriously picking cotton in the fields of Red Top in Merced County he was honored with an American Legion Award at his 8th grade graduation.
In 1951, Tom moved to Hollister to work in the cannary, then became an Electrical Supervisor with Astrocratic Trailers in Morgan Hill.
From there, he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at Casa de Fruta for many years while simultaneously studying at night school to become a welder. He eventually earned his welding certification from the State of California and began working for Stafety Storage, then moved on to Pride Conveyance Systems as a Welder Fabricator where he retired at 72 years of age.
Tom loved sports especially baseball & football as an avid Raiders fan. He enjoyed camping, traveling in his RV, gardening and growing his own avocados, barbecuing with his family and friends, always fixing himself a red beer to unwind. A lover of animals he always kept dogs around for company, loved playing the guitar, cowboy westerns, and mariachi music.
Tom is survived by his wife Ruby Jauregui Zamorez of Hollister of 66 years of marriage, his daughter Paulette (Jerry) Clay of Las Vegas, NV, son Paul Zamorez of Hollister, grandaughter Rachelle Rodriguez of Hollister, grandson's Eric Rodriguez of Los Angeles and Isaiah Zamorez of Hollister, sister Angela Castro of Hollister, great grandchildren Sophia Figueroa and Isaiah Zamorez Jr of Hollister, CA as well as his beloved caretaker Wendy Woods and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Tom J Zamorez, his parents, and sisters Candelina Figueroa, Francis Cota, and Petra Mejia.
Funeral services will be held at Scared Heart Church on Friday, May 9 at 11 am located next door to his home at 5th & College Street, Hollister, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, 1100 Hillcrest Road.
