Obituary of David Anthony Talavera, Sr.

It is with great sadness to share that David Anthony Talavera Sr. of Hollister, CA passed away peacefully at home on April 2nd, 2025. A rosary will be held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson on Wednesday April 9th at 5:30 PM. Mass will be held at St. Benedict’s Church on April 10th at 11 AM with entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. David was born in Salinas, CA to Simon and Katie Talavera on April 16th, 1944. He attended San Benito High School and graduated in 1962. At the age of 16 he met the love of his life, Angie Salcido. David and Angie lived in Hollister following their wedding on May 1st, 1965. They had three children to whom he was a devoted and loving father. He was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart and St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. David became a barber in 1966 and went on to become a proud local business owner of Hollister Barber Shop until he retired in August of 2012. David will be remembered by many as Coach David from his time spent coaching Little League teams in Hollister. During his years as a business owner he participated in the local Jaycees Chapter. He was a die hard fan of the Golden State Warriors, the Raiders, and the A’s. David enjoyed visiting Hawaii as well as vacationing to Lake Tahoe and Reno. He enjoyed introducing his family to camping to many spots that included California, Oregon, Washington, and Canada throughout the years. A trip to Europe included Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland which was a highlight amongst David and Angie’s many travels. To commemorate their 50th wedding anniversary, David and Angie traveled along with their three children and their spouses, and their grandchildren to Niagara Falls and Cooperstown in New York. Tending to his property and being out on his tractor brought him much joy. Upon the arrival of his first grandchildren in 2000, David was a beaming grandfather who was proud to attend any and all activities that involved all four of them throughout the years. Including attending numerous sporting activities from baseball to tennis to swimming. He is survived by his wife Angie Talavera, his children Kathy Talavera, David Talavera Jr. (Sasha), and Barbara Thompson (Danny). David was a proud grandfather to twins David Talavera III and Maya Talavera, Derek Talavera, and Marria Talavera. Sisters Cruz Arballo (Augie), Angie Miranda, and Diane Miranda along with numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends whom he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his parents Simon Talavera and Katie Bisceglia, his sisters Rachel Rushing and Teri Juarez, and his brother Jesse Miranda. He is also preceded in death by many of his aunts and uncles. Donations can be made to Stanford Medical fund Pulmonology Research Department to benefit Interstitial Lung Disease
