It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Earl Huston on April 2nd, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 29th, 1928, in Hollister, California, to Robert Barkley Huston and Mae Grace Huston, George’s life was one marked by dedication to family, community, and a spirit of adventure. He attended San Benito High School, where he met his beloved wife, Ruth. Their enduring love story began, and they were united in marriage on November 28th, 1950, establishing their home in Hollister. In 1951, George answered the call to service and proudly served two years of active duty in the United States Army. Stationed in Maryland, he was assigned to the motor pool, demonstrating his practical skills and commitment. Upon his honorable discharge, George and Ruth returned to Hollister, where he dedicated himself to the family business, Hollister Auto Parts. Founded by his father in 1926, George diligently managed and grew the establishment until his well-deserved retirement in 1990. George possessed a passion for aviation, sharing the joy of flight with his wife Ruth. Together, they embarked on numerous journeys with family and friends, often piloting their plane to destinations such as the Nut Tree in Vacaville for cherished Sunday lunches with their sons, and to their vacation home in Lake Tahoe. He also held a deep connection to the family homestead in Jolon, California, finding solace and enjoyment in its familiar surroundings. In his retirement years, George embraced the freedom of travel in their motorhome. He also pursued his love of angling on fishing expeditions to Northern California and Oregon with his close companions and eagerly anticipated the annual dove hunting season at the family ranch. George was a committed member of numerous fraternal and social organizations, including the Masons, Odd Fellows, Elks Lodge, Hollister Airman’s, Hollister Travelers, Salinas Boat Club, reflecting his desire for connection and community involvement. He is lovingly remembered by his sons John (Lori) and Stephen (Sheri); his cherished grandchildren, Patrick Huston (Sarah), Haley Rabello (Manuel), and Hunter Huston (Mia); and his adored great-grandchildren, Carter Gasch, Aspen Huston, and Scarlet Rabello. George was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 70 years and high school sweetheart, Ruth Huston; his parents, Robert and Mae Huston; and Sister Grace Greer.
