Obituary of Marian Whitney Bowlus
Our Angel, Marian Whitney Bowlus, was called home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2025, with her family at her side.
Born November 30, 1937, Marian was 87 years old. She was born in Concord Massachusetts, to Leon & Marian Whitney, being the youngest of four children (2 Sisters & 1 Brother). She was raised in Leominster Massachusetts, living at the Family home on Old Mill Road, and attending local schools. Upon graduating High School, Marian attended Fitchburg State College, earning a degree in teaching. This carried her off to further schooling in California where she met and married the love of her life, her husband Jack.
Over the span of 62 years, together they built a life and a family. With their two children, they picked up and left San Fernando Valley and moved to Paso Robles with a better opportunity in employment. Marian became a teacher in the Paso Robles School District teaching in the Elementary grades, a profession she truly loved, for many years.
In 1981, Marian and Jack moved to Hollister to start a business selling Butler Steel Buildings. Central Coast Agri-Builders was born and became the center of their lives for 44 years.
Marian spent a lifetime being involved in any organization or hobby that fit her. She enjoyed being a Majorette in college and was in Rainbow Girls (A Masonic Lodge affiliation for young women) which led her to join Eastern Star later. She was very involved in all her children’s activities, along with the Presbyterian Church and duties therein, which saw her become the Bell Choir Director until she could no longer do it. She was involved in a Square Dancing Group, Kiwanis Club, local EAA Flying Group, her favorite gym, Relay for Life and the list goes on. She also had a love of cooking, gardening and sewing which family and friends benefited from.
Marian’s greatest love was her family. Always there to lend a hand, administer hugs and share her positivity. When the grandchildren arrived, she found even more love to share and more things to do that involved babysitting and running errands for said grandchildren. Then the great grandchildren came, and her heart was bursting with more love. She also filled her life with wonderful family friends, never meeting someone she didn’t like.
Marian thrived in life until health issues took the better of her. She never let things get her down though and always approached life with a smile and kind words. She treasured those who visited or called her and made her days greater. Her love and smiles will be terribly missed.
Marian is survived by the love of her life, Jack Bowlus, her daughter Rhonda and son in law Robert, son Royce Bowlus and partner Alesia Murray, Grandchildren; Wesley Rovella (Jessica), Shaunna Finstad (Chris), Dustin Rovella (Delani), Lauren Enz-Bowlus, Meglan Enz-Bowlus, Great Grandchildren; Issac Rovella, Whitney Finstad, Blakely Finstad and Luke Rovella. She’s also survived by her sister-in-law Anita Whitney and many nieces and nephews locally and all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon & Marian Whitney, sisters Florence Johnson, Natalie Keogh, brother Carl Whitney, a baby son and many dear family friends.
A Celebration of Marian’s Life will take place at 12:00pm Sunday March 30, 2025 @ Christ Fellowship Church, 2066 Cienega Road, Hollister CA 95023. A luncheon reception will immediately follow. Private family Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
