“You know, I like your hair better this way rather than the way you had it before.” – Loretta, Early January 2025
That was the type of relationship that Loretta and I enjoyed. It had evolved into a friendship where neither of us worried over whether the words that came out of our mouths could possibly offend the other. We could be our authentic selves.
It wasn’t that way at the beginning, but we developed a bond over our mutual love of family, literature, and art. Loretta, who had more experience in these areas, was generous with her advice, and I learned to listen to her valuable suggestions. She tended to be self-deprecating with her own artwork, but I admired her attention to details and her artistic techniques and intuition. Her watercolor paintings were beautiful, and I hope to eventually produce the types of pieces similar in quality to hers.
When Loretta gave a compliment, it was a big deal. Her praise was of great value because you knew that it came from her heart. That is why, when Chuck told me that Loretta was impressed with the progress that I had made as an artist when I gave her my last painting at the hospital, I am compelled to keep this treasured compliment in my heart forever and use it when I’m feeling frustrated with my art.
Thank you, Loretta, for the impact that you had in my life and in the lives of so many people. You will be missed.

Loretta was pure 'sugar n' spice'...she was genuine. You knew when she was happy, and boy, did you know when she was annoyed. I loved that about her. Whenever I would see Chuck out and about, I would ask about Loretta, and then finish with, "Well, give her a hug for me." Chuck, you will see her again someday, and when you do...give her a hug for me. She had a well-lived life, and she will be missed.

Since Loretta was 10 years older than I was and she didn’t live with us all the time I don’t have a lot of memories to share, so here goes.
When I got married we had 4 children, and we had a tradition at Christmas of having a Silly String fight. Well, one year we were at Chuck and Loretta’s for Christmas and we asked her if they minded us having one in their home. If you knew Loretta you knew how meticulous she was about her home. She had to think long and hard about it but she did agree to it and I think she had fun. I wish I had a picture to share of everyone with string hanging all over them.

Aunt Loretta had a gift for bringing joy wherever she went. Her laughter was infectious, her stories unforgettable, and she had a way of making every new family member feel instantly welcome (ask my husband Pat!). Whether with a witty remark or a heartfelt embrace, she made sure no one ever felt like a stranger. Her presence lit up every gathering, and the warmth she shared will forever remain in our hearts. We will miss her dearly, but her spirit and humor will live in our cherished memories. Sending all our love to Uncle Chuck during this time. Love, Kat & Pat
