Obituary of Sadie S. Hernandez

Sadie Sanchez Hernandez passed away peacefully on April 13th, 2018 at the age of 82. Sadie was at home surrounded by her family and entered into heaven during a moment of worship and praise.

Sadie was born Eulalia Gomez Sanchez, in Verden,OK on August 8th, 1935 to Esequiel and Guadalupe Sanchez. Sadie was one of 8 siblings (Consuelo Burriel, Rosa Flores, Pete Sanchez, Jose Sanchez, Virgina Molano,Mary Ortega, and Johnny Sanchez). She was raised in Hanford CA, where she then married the late John Z Hernandez and moved to Hollister CA in 1957. They raised 5 children, Sylvia DeLuna (spouse Robert), Esther LePore (spouse Brian), John “Shotgun” Hernandez (spouse Mag’e), Art “Bito” Hernandez (spouse Darla), and Jack Alvarado Hernandez. Sadie worked at Tri County Cannery for over 30 years, then at Jovenes de Antano Senior Center for 15 years. Sadie was a devout born again Christian, and was a member of the Apostolic church and Sunnyslope Christian Center. Sadie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary unit 69 and VFW Auxiliary Post 9242.

Sadie loved gardening, caring for her two dogs (Sissy and Charles Whittaker Sanchez Hernandez) and traveling with her long time companion, Ed Ballesteros. Sadie was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching boxing and cheering on her favorite teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Giants. Sadie enjoyed cooking for everyone. You could always count on her for coffee, her salsa, the best refried beans, and was well known for HER FAMOUS TACOS.

She is survived by 3 of her siblings, her 5 children, 21 grandchildren, and 17great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life for Sadie will be Thursday April 19th, at 7:00pm at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Family Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St. Hollister CA.

Burial services beginning Friday April 20th, at 10:00am at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Family Funeral Home. Continuing onto Calvary Cemetery 1100 Hillcrest Rd, Hollister, CA

Reception to follow at Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. Hollister, CA.
