Obituary of Grovenor John Fox

Please share a memory of Grovenor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Grovenor lived an amazing life and passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 2, 2017 at home in Hollister CA just 2 weeks shy of his 97th birthday.

He was born to William Kelly Fox and Marie Ann Fox (Maurischat) on November 18, 1920 in York, Nebraska.  As a child he loved to go fishing with his brother Kelly and their dog Hoodie.  After earning a Bachelors at the University of Portland he joined the Navy and served as a Lieutenant in the Seabees. He played an important role in both the Invasion of Normandy, and the Pacific theater at Iwo Jima. Post war, Grove served as an Engineer for Kaiser and was involved in several international projects.

Grove married the love of his life, “livewire”, Jean Elizabeth Stangel in 1949.  They were lucky enough to celebrate 63 adventurous years together.  Grove’s generous and selfless nature led him to be involved in many philanthropic organizations alongside his wife Jean.   Together they enjoyed traveling, sailing, golfing, dancing and entertaining their friends and family at every opportunity.

Grove is survived by his sons John and wife Debra, and Lee and wife Judy, 5 grandchildren: Joseph, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Katherine and Jamie, one great-granddaughter Ellie, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kelly, his wife Jean, and their son Jay.

Grove lived the type of life people dream of having. A recent highlight was a trip with “Honor Flight” to Washington D.C. to visit the War Memorial. He was accompanied by his niece Rachel Wegner and two grandsons Joe and Nick who feel blessed to have shared the experience with him. While there he was recognized for his military service and was selected to help place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

He was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed immensely.

In his own words “I led to the best of my capabilities a good, interesting life. I luckily married a wonderful wife Jean and had three good boys, John, Lee and Jay. I’ll go back to nature peacefully.”

We love you Tuan, Memory Eternal.

Per Grovenor’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Honor Flight Bay Area http://www.honorflightbayarea.org/donate.html
