Obituary of Jose Luis Camacho

Please share a memory of Jose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jose Luis (Joe) Camacho passed away on June 1, 2017. He was 57 years old.

Joe was born in Weslaco, Texas, in 1960, the first child and eldest son of Rogelio Camacho (dec.) and Ofelia (Puente) Camacho of Hollister, CA.

Joe, along with his family, moved to California when he was 6 years old. He was a kind and popular student at San Benito High School, where he made numerous friends and loved to participate in Mexican Folkloric dancing. After graduating in 1979, Joe wanted to serve his country and learn a trade, so he joined the navy. After serving for 4 years, he returned to Hollister and for the last several years of his life, Joe worked at Charter.

All who knew Joe recognized him for the kind-spirited person he was. He loved camping and being outdoors, but he was best known for his love of his family – especially his nieces and nephews. With no children of his own, Joe made every child feel special and cherished – remembering every birthday, every special event. He always thought of his family before himself, and was happiest when cooking elaborate meals for them.

Joe is survived by his mother Ofelia (Puente) Camacho, his sisters Maria Dodge (Daniel Dodge: Daniel Jr., Steven, Richard), Anna Casas (Ricardo Casas: Ricardo Jr. Sonia, Gabriel) and Rosa Camacho (Pedro Hernandez: Mateo, Isaac, Elena), and his brothers Ernesto Camacho (Ernesto Jr., Bianca, Tristan) and Javier Camacho (Yesenia, Yvette, Isaiah).

Joe was preceded in death by his father Rogelio Camacho.

The recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday June 5th, 2017 at 7:00PM at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home with doors opening at 5:00PM.

On Tuesday, June 6th, 2017, family and friends will meet at Sacred Heart Church at 1:00PM for a Mass of the Resurrection. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
